Paul Smalley, Director
Paul started his career managing insurance companies on behalf of their beneficial owners in Guernsey. This role included the financial management of the companies, preparing the accounts to audit stage as well as reporting to the board of directors of the companies on a quarterly basis to detail the performance of the business.
After leaving Guernsey, he became a credit insurance underwriter in London, a role that included analysing accounts in detail to establish whether the credit could be insured.
This wealth of financial analysis and reporting built up over years of experience provides Paul with the ability to produce accounts and discuss them with business owners in a way that assists them in decision making. Where reporting needs to be amended, this can be implemented to improve management accounting reports.
Joy also started her career in Guernsey, initially working for a merchant bank dealing with complex financial analysis to ensure that client transactions were met with the highest accuracy.
She then moved into the corporate banking arena, working on projects that were business critical due to changing markets as well as the merger of systems following the takeover of a competitor.
After leaving Guernsey, Joy continued her project management work before taking voluntary redundancy. This provided her with the springboard to start her own business.
Working on projects where change is a requirement provides Joy with the ability to look at issues objectively and come up with scenarios to best suit the needs of the business in question.

Paper Mountain Solutions started operating in 2004 following the experience of the Directors who set up their first business in 2003.
It became evident that financial controls were not as good as they should have been which led to strains on cash flow and restricted business growth.
Through implementing sound financial management principles and maintaining financial records that were up to date, we found that businesses could focus on development while Paper Mountain Solutions dealt with the bookkeeping, credit control and production of management accounts.
